Addictions Counselling Certificate for Nurses

Addictions counselling certificate for nurses will assist nurses to develop the knowledge and skills required to effectively address two of Canada’s leading health care issues: mental health and addictive behaviours. Students will gain both a theoretical understanding and the clinical skills required to help clients successfully navigate their challenges as they begin their journey to wellness.

Course is offered online and is open to nurses or nurse psychotherapist only who provides supports and therapy to clients in any healthcare settings.

Course duration is 8 months. Clients will be expected to submit clinical case studies or attend a clinical placement in their communities that focuses on substance abuse or alcohol use disorder.

10. Retaining Sobriety: Relapse Prevention Strategies
11. Working with Special Populations: Treatment Issues and Characteristics
12. Working with Diverse Cultures: Exploring Sociocultural Influences and Realities in Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Prevention
13. Prevention
14. Behavioral Addictions/Non – Substance-Related Disorders: An Overview

A certificate is provide upon completion of this program.
