Certified Nurse Psychotherapist Details
Certified Nurse Psychotherapist CNP/CPN Certificate Number Certificate Number 10344 Tilden Lake Ontario
Elizabeth Allingham is a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Psychotherapist with nearly three decades of experience in healthcare. She graduated in 1997 and spent over 20 years working in critical care in Toronto, alongside eight years in psychiatric nursing.
She currently works as a Mobile Crisis Nurse, responding alongside city police to complex community calls for service. In this role, Elizabeth supports individuals and families navigating depression, anxiety, mood disorders, medical trauma, mental health and addictions, and suicidality. She is deeply committed to community-based care, coordinating with local resources and services to connect clients with meaningful, practical supports and to provide compassionate crisis intervention.
Elizabeth is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and brings a strong foundation in multicultural awareness and cultural humility to her practice, recognizing the unique contexts and lived experiences each client brings to therapy.
Throughout her career, Elizabeth has worked with people on what are often the worst days of their lives. From this, she has learned that holding a safe, steady space is pivotal—not only for processing the moment, but for offering the tools clients and families need to move forward with grace and resilience. Her approach is empathetic and client-centered, guided by a simple belief: our story can have a happy ending—we just have to get through the yuck first.
She is also inspired by the words of Maya Angelou: “People may forget what you said or did, but never how you made them feel.”
Married for nearly 30 years and the mother of a busy teenager, Elizabeth brings both professional depth and lived experience into her work. She understands the complexities of raising a family while navigating personal and shared challenges. Outside of her clinical practice, she is a musician and photographer who finds meaning in creativity and human connection. She also volunteers with Children’s Aid Services (CAS), providing comfort and connection to infants in care.
